Ink Drawing with Matisse

Students will develop a personal vocabulary of marks and shapes using brush, reed pens and ink in this 2 day workshop. The first day students will look at projectedimages of Matisse’s ink drawn landscapes, still life compositions, figure drawings, plants and flowers. What is Matisse’s vocabulary of marks? How does he usethose marks to create pattern, volume space? Students will draw organic objects from observation leaves, flowers, seeds, branches, extracting and developing theirown vocabulary of marks. On Day 2 students will make new drawings using marks and shapes collected in their personal vocabulary of marks from the previous day.
