Matisse considered his late work cutting shapes from painted paper the ultimate synthesis of combined drawing and painting. In this 2 day workshop students will look at projected images of Mattise’s ink drawings and painted cut outs, they will draw with brush and ink as well as mix color and paint sheets of paper, concluding the workshop with color cut-out compositions. The first day will focus on drawing shapes in ink along with experimenting with mixing colors. On Day 2 students will abandon the ink and work strictly with painted paper, drawing shapes with scissors and gluing the shapes to a surface for a final synthesized drawing/painting.
